Cover of The Rolling Stone Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show

History of song: Genre- Rock  Original Air Date- 1972

This song was written by Shel Silverstein and was recorded by the American rock group Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show. The song highlights what success is/looks like in the music industry/business especially with rock groups and other rock related genres. They also talk about not having a cover photo featured on The Rolling Stone magazine. They are basically doing everything that the other artist are doing and still don't have a cover. A year later, they finally get a picture, but it only features 3 out of the 7 group members . The magazine also did not include the bands name. It was rumored that they had re-recorded a new version so that way, you could not hear the words Rolling Stone. After re-recording, they named it "The Cover of the Radio Times". The song however did not chart as well as the original song.

lyrics:

"Not having a picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone"

"Teenage groupies that will do anything we say"

"Pills and Thrills" Drug use

"Money that can buy them friends so they want be alone"

"Indian guru that tells them what to do" maybe a manager, boss or label

"Loved everywhere we go"

"Sing about beauty and truth"

"10,000 a show"

Relates to Industry:

When I read the lyrics and watch the music video, they were basically calling the magazine out and that any group/singer can literally sing about anything and people will still listen to it. They are doing the same as the other groups and not getting recognition. You can make so much money and make the charts and still get no credit. The song still relates to the industry today. It's all about popularity, and money. It's also about what connections you have as well as what did you do in order to reach that fame. All of that will get you on the cover, especially on The Rolling Stones magazine.
